Hello friends.
This email is not urgent.
It's a read-anytime-you-want kinda thing.
It's 7:30 am here in Hawaii. I'm sitting by the window with the ocean waves rolling outside. Hot coffee, soft music playing, and a flickering candle. Grateful for this quiet moment in a world that's often very noisy.
I wanted to share what I’ve been up to lately. Things I’ve been writing, projects in motion, a little peek at what’s happening in my corner of the globe.
What I’ve been up to lately…
- I was delighted to appear on two podcasts recently: Chart Your Career and Free Time. We discussed so many things: pivotal moments in my career, terrible decisions and lessons learned, why I dropped out of college (and
eventually went back), my journey to becoming a published author, psychedelic adventures, you name it.
- Do you love dogs? Earlier this year, I released a new product called The Pup Talks Card Deck. Deck of 52 illustrated cards. Each card contains an encouraging pep talk written from the perspective of a dog. A portion of profits goes to support animal welfare and rescue organizations. Woof.
- Did you hear about Book Deal Camp? 15 incredible clients signed up for this program. We’re in the middle of the process right now. Each person is working diligently to write a book proposal, get a literary agent, and get a lucrative book deal.
One Book Deal Camp client is writing a Black woman’s guide to overcoming chronic pain. Another client is writing a memoir about leaving a cult and reinventing her life. Another, a collection of hilarious true stories about her dysfunctional-but-deeply-loving family. I feel extremely blessed for the opportunity to work with each person as they develop their book. (PS. Book Deal Camp will be offered again in 2023. I'll
send a note when enrollment is open.)
- Hello Seven is a company that teaches BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and women entrepreneurs how to make more money. I got hired to do another writing project for this company, which is always an honor. Side note: if you suspect that you could be earning more than you currently do, sign up to do their 5-day Make Money Moves
Challenge. It's genius.
- I got hired by my lovely friend Danielle Cohen to do a writing project for her Visibility Medicine program. Danielle is a brand strategist and photographer, but first and foremost, she's a healer. If there's something blocking you from being more visible in the world (fear
of being rejected, fear of being misunderstood, any fears around being seen and heard) work with Danielle. She will help you address whatever is holding you back, in the gentlest and most tender way.
- Five years ago, I started The Tiny Book Course in my living room with a small handful of clients and a large pot of coffee. It has grown beyond anything I ever imagined. To date, more than 500 clients have graduated from this course. Hundreds of books: written.
In addition, we have a scholarship program for those who want to write a book but can’t afford to enroll in the course at this particular time.
This year, we are providing 30 full scholarships and 30 partial scholarships totaling $44,775 in tuition funding. My team is working very hard to process all the applications and to send a personal response to every single person who applied. This makes me deeply proud and I know it’s only the beginning. Tiny projects can create a big ripple effect.
- I have a new book coming out soon. It's called Marketing Without Social Media. In the book, I share 100 marketing ideas (no social media required) for business owners, freelancers, authors, artists, musicians, and creatives. If you're intrigued about this book, join the waitlist. We'll send you info about the Marketing Without Social Media book and the online course, too.
- Before the pandemic, I used to lead writing retreats in Hawaii 2 or 3 times a year. I paused for a while. But...I'm happy to announce that I'm leading a retreat soon. December 6-13, 2022. This will be the most luxurious retreat I've ever hosted. The venue is stupendously beautiful. Think: panoramic ocean view, sculpture garden, pool, jacuzzi, gazebo. Details coming soon.
That's a behind-the-scenes tour of what's been happening lately.
It's been a prolific year. Busy but in a good way. I'm incredibly grateful for my husband, parents, siblings, friends, and colleagues who continually say, "Yes, you can do it!" whenever I come up with a new project or dream. (And, who tolerate me when I declare, "I need to go away for 4 days and write! BYE!")
Whatever you are working on lately, whether it's a creative project, business venture, focusing on family, health, or anything else, I am wishing you the greatest and deepest success.
With all my heart,
-Alex
