Quick Tip
There's an important project that you want to get done.
It might be a book, product, program, fundraiser, conference, or another ambitious
endeavor.
You want to bring this project over the finish line as quickly as possible. No friction. No delays. You also want it to be excellent. Nothing sloppy or haphazard.
How will you pull this off?
Jen Kem, a brand
strategist who has worked with The Oprah Winfrey Network, Oracle, Microsoft, and Verizon, as well as hundreds of small business owners, says, "To bring a big idea to life at warp speed, you can't do it alone. You need a Unicorn Team."
There are three types of Unicorns—and you’re one of them.
The Visionizer
The Strategizer
The Mobilizer
The Visionizer
- Comes up with the big, audacious vision.
- Sees futuristic possibilities before
others do.
- Pushes people to think beyond what currently exists and play bigger.
- Charismatic, magnetic, infectious enthusiasm.
- Inspires others to join the vision and be part of it.
- The Visionizer’s gift is seeing, “This is where we need to go…" but they aren’t always great at figuring out, "How we're going to get there..." which brings us to:
The Strategizer
- Brilliant strategist, the master chess player, the one who sees all the moving pieces that need to come together in order to win.
- Translates the Visionizer's big idea into language that others will understand.
- Excellent at marketing and sales, knows how to build demand for an offer.
- The Strategizer’s gift is seeing, "Here's what we need to do to bring
the vision to life and win in the marketplace…" but they aren’t always great at completing all the deliverables, which brings us to:
The Mobilizer
- The person (or people) who takes each piece of the strategy and actually gets it done.
- Mobilizers are the ones who write the copy, design the brochure,
edit the audio file, prep the meals, greet the guests when they arrive, etc.
- Their superpower is getting things done with excellence.
- This person is not an "underling.” They are an artisan, a specialist, a master of their craft.
- The Mobilizer cannot stand loose ends. “Done” is their favorite word.
Every team needs a blend of Visionizer + Strategizer + Mobilizer
energy.
When one type of Unicorn is missing, the project stalls and never gets off the ground or doesn't reach its full potential.
The Unicorns on your team might be employees, though not necessarily. They could be freelancers, contractors, affiliates, mentors, coaches, volunteers, family, or friends.
Depending on your project, you may need a team of three people, ten, dozens, or hundreds. Some ventures require hundreds or thousands of Mobilizers to get over the finish line.
Which type of Unicorn are you?
Which Unicorns are missing from your
team?
One Unicorn can only do so much. Rally your fellow Unicorns around you. That's how you will achieve the impossible at lightning speed.
xo.
