Every Tuesday, I send you a quick tip on writing, communication, and how to get important projects done.
Whether you’re an author, speaker, educator, entrepreneur, salesperson, or anyone else, I hope these tips make a difference in your week.
Quick Tip
Starting a new project?
Maybe you've decided to write a book, launch a podcast, open a business, develop a new product, get a PhD, or something else.
Before you dive in, make a list of Five Reasons Why this project is deeply important to you.
Example
I want to write this book because…
I have a story that others need to hear.
I want readers to hear about my journey and feel less alone.
I want to position myself as an expert and leader
in my field.
I want the healing catharsis that comes from writing.
I want my children and grandchildren to hold this book in their hands and carry a piece of me with them, even after I’m gone.
If you can think of more than five reasons, even better. Keep going. A few of your additional reasons might be:
This book will bring new leads and clients to
my business.
This book will open the door to media and speaking opportunities.
I want to prove to myself that I can do this.
My life will feel incomplete if I don’t do this.
The world needs more bestsellers written by people who look like me.
Although plenty of books have already been written on this topic, I have something fresh to add to the conversation.
I want to hone my writing and communication skills.
I want to be an inspiration to
others.
I just want to. Period. (It's okay to do something purely because it sounds stimulating, interesting, and fun!)
When the journey gets hard, go back to your list of reasons why you are doing this.
Keep your list somewhere visible where you'll see it often. Your desk. Your bulletin board. Your mirror.
Remember why you
started.
This will propel you to finish.
xo.

How we handled obstacles that came up. How we got this very ambitious and complex project done. And, my advice for aspiring authors who are seeking a book deal.
