Oh yes. You can.

Thirty-seven days ago...

... I celebrated my five-year business anniversary... cheerfully scampered over to the rock climbing gym... had a fantastic climbing session... decided to do "just one more wall"... fell off that wall... broke my leg and wrecked my ankle... and spent the rest of the night in the emergency room.

At 2am that night, while I sat in a Vicodin daze with my leg elevated in the air, my boyfriend made me the greatest cheeseburger of my entire life (because nothing, not even a medical crisis, will get between this man and his grill).

As we enjoyed our belated, late-night "celebration dinner," he told me:

"This isn't a setback. This is the beginning of your comeback story. You are only going to get stronger."

I wish I could say that I gave him a "high five" and said, "Totally!"

I wish I could say that, from that moment onward, I've been riding a nonstop wave of empowerment, courage, and ever-growing strength.

The truth is that this has been one of the most challenging experiences of my life, physically and emotionally. It has humbled me in ways I did not expect.

The truth, also, is that... I am grateful. For all it.

This experience forced me to take a good, hard look at my life  how I am spending my life-minutes and really consider if I'm OK with my current trajectory.

The average human life is 39,420,000 minutes long. I realize, now, with extra-vivid clarity, that those minutes pass quickly, we never get them back, and how we choose to spend each one... counts.

How will you spend your life-minutes today?

How many minutes will you give to... Facebook? Twitter? Email? Your health and fitness? Your most precious creative projects? Your loved ones? TV? Meditation? Conversation? Being inside? Being outside? Cooking? Writing? Worrying? Dreaming? Doing? Talking to your mom?

Every choice you make = an expenditure of minutes.

Nobody can tell you how to spend your personal allotment of life-minutes.

That's up to you, me, all of us, to decide for ourselves.

Please spend wisely and deliberately.

If you like, you can spend a few of your life-minutes exploring some of my recent pieces & projects, listed just below. I would be honored. Or, swing away from your inbox and spend your minutes elsewhere. I will not be offended. I salute you.

- [my latest] Oh yes. You can.

- [a special advice column collaboration] How do I work less while still making a good impression?

- [a podcast interview] Turn your day around & how to say no - The Lively Show

- [audio love] My client Dr. Suzanne Gelb recently released a collection of audio meditations. I helped to write the scripts. Her voice is utterly lovely. If you're an audiophile, check these out.

- [also!] Tiffany Shea, a wonderful songwriter and musician, took a line of poetry that I wrote and used it as the chorus of her latest song, "Daydream." This made me cry a million times. Tiffany, you rock! (Literally!).

- [and!] After my accident, I invited friends and readers to compile a collection of "while you are recovering" resources to enjoy. Music, books, shows, motivating articles. The list is EPIC and if you are looking for a jolt of inspiration... check it out. (A huge THANK YOU to everyone who contributed. Holy smokes. Love-avalanche.)

Have an excellent day. Use your minutes well.

And if you're feeling sluggish, distracted, or just "behind" on everything you hope to achieve, remember:

Love,

-Alex

PS. This song is kinda raunchy and very addicting. I am obsessed. YES to this remix, also.

PPS. I made this playlist to enter a "DJ contest" at my local gym  for a Sunday morning fitness class called "Church." The playlist is completely bonkers and makes me SO happy. Terminator theme song? Obviously. If you need to get PUMPED... have a listen. Enjoy!
