It is 3:15 am and I am wired — in a good way.
I just finished up an EPIC writing project for a client... but instead of feeling drained, I actually feel MORE energized than when I began. Like how I imagine the lead singer from Bastille feels after rocking onstage in front of a packed stadium.
Don't get me wrong: in a few minutes my entire brain is going to power down and I'm going to dissolve into my bed. But for these few, brief, lovely moments, I'm enjoying the all-natural
high.
Five years ago, when I was working in public broadcasting ― at what I thought was my "perfect job" ― I finished each workday feeling completely exhausted down to my very bones. I barely had enough energy left to lift my tattered copy of Twilight, turn the page, and pop a brownie or pour a beer into my mouth.
My life is wildly different than it was back then. The difference is staggering.
How did this happen? Well, there is one thing I know for sure:
The transformation began when a very small
voice inside of me whispered, "This isn't who you really are ― or what you are capable of. There's more. Lots more."
I didn't know what "more" looked like, yet, but I decided to trust that small voice ― total, blind faith ― and I vowed to start taking steps so that I could find out.... what "more" meant for
me.
My deepest wish is for you to feel that same sense of momentum.
For you to feel completely unstoppable with
your goals and your creative projects. (And I'm not just talking about books, blogs or businesses. Your LIFE is the ultimate "creative project.")
That's my riff for today. Or rather, tonight.
On a related note: I've been writing a TON lately.
Here are a few recent pieces for you.
Read & enjoy...
- What are you capable of giving? [it's so much more than you think]
- Why do you care? [interesting things happen when you chat with kindly cab drivers...]
- Get into your angry place. [this is my most-popular piece of the year, so far.]
- A very saucy edition of my advice column: Good Question. [this one is absolutely not suitable for kids, work, or people who are uptight and easily offended by... bodies and grown-up things.]
- How to say to your client or boss, "I'm drowning in work! Enough! No more!" and still sound calm and professional. [we've all been
there...]
- Your life is a hot date. Show up. [damn straight]
- Speaking of hot dates... I
have TWO seats open for Sugar: a very special, one-night and one-time-only event at my loft in Portland, Oregon. It's very soon: Saturday, February 7th.
Single and dating? Come and write your online profile (I'll help). Part of a couple?
Come and write love letters to each other. Love decadent desserts and champagne? We've got both.
This is going to be a very luxurious evening ― a celebration of love, romance and the written word ― with food prepared by my outrageously talented boyfriend, Brandon, who happens to be a professional chef. The ultimate pre-Valentine's Day treat? I think so. I'd love to have you. Get the
details & grab your seat.
My favorite quote of the week:
“Never love anyone who treats you like you're ordinary.” ―Oscar Wilde
And with that? I'm off to bed.
Sleep tight, friends...

PPS. One of my clients ― who is about to go through a major website overhaul ― is looking for a WordPress-savvy geek who can create new pages, load in text and photos, format things all pretty-like, use Lead Pages,
and handle general techie bits. Is that you? Email her at mgr@prsecretstore.com and include your rates, your résumé and / or a link to your website (if you've got one). Hint: she LOVES brevity so keep your message tight 'n light. :)
