Six types of motivation & my song of the weekend.

Published: Sat, 06/06/15

Hey there...

Today: I am taking a pinch of my own advice and practicing "Asteya"  the yogic practice that means “non-stealing of time.”

Asteya, when applied to emails, means sharing valuable gifts, stories and insights conveyed as briefly as possible. Maximum impact. Minimal time.

I'm aiming for Asteya-wesomeness.

Let's see how I do. :)

Three things for you:

- The six types of motivation. My take on how to identify what motivates you and stop breaking your promises (to yourself) so damn often.

- The power of "I am." Could changing your inner dialogue from "I want" to "I am" make you less likely to give up on your goals? Based on a survey I did last month, I'm thinking... yeah.

- Trying is always worth it. So many of you wrote to me and said, "I really needed to read this post." Emails like that bring me to tears. Sharing this older piece again, just in case, maybe, you need to read this story too.

Also:

- The June issue of Raspberry Magazine is out and... I am on the cover! Eeee! Ever since reading SEVENTEEN as a dorky near-sighted teenager — fantasizing about the day when I would finally have boobs — I have dreamed of being a "cover girl" for a magazine. My dream has come true and my inner teen is having heart palpitations and applying extra layers of cake batter-flavored Lip Smackers. Check out this lovely publication here.

An invitation:

If you have always wanted to write a book  except the prospect feels totally exhausting and overwhelming to even think about, let alone actually do  this workshop is for you.

Come visit Portland (coolest city ever) during the height of summer. Spend a day at my home. Get clear. Get focused. Learn techniques to simplify the writing process. Replace writing-dread with delight. Also: eat glorious homemade donuts fresh outta the fryer.

I have 4 seats left for Make A Tiny Book and then... that's it for my 2015 workshop series.

Read up & register here. See you in Portland!

"Keep going. Start by starting." Meryl Streep

Sage advice for all of us. I have a few things that I need to start... by starting. Better get on that. :)

Love,

-Alex

PS. This is my official song of the weekend. Crank the music up, throw your cell phone out the window, and gaze at the sky without a screen hazing your view...
