Happy Valentine's Day!
Earlier today, I had a flashback to junior high school. At my school, on V-Day, you could pay a couple bucks to purchase a "Sweetheart Gram" for your
crush.
Later that day, in the middle of class, someone would knock on the classroom door, bring in the Grams, and distribute them amidst squeals of glee.
I'd always wait with bated breath... hoping, praying, wishing that somebody had sent me a Gram. I wanted that pink-and-white card so
badly. Plus the chocolate that came with it.
I never got a Gram. Not even once. Being a nerdy, asthmatic, flat-chested tween with huge glasses, a missing tooth, and a mouthful of braces (the kind you cranked with a key to tighten them), I guess I wasn't anybody's "romantic fantasy." (Oh, the heartbreak of 7th grade!)
I knew I wasn't the only student who felt despondent about not receiving a Gram. I remember thinking to myself, "This is so dumb. EVERYBODY should get a Gram. Not just the chosen few. Everybody deserves something nice today. And every day."
That's how
I still feel today. Everybody should get to enjoy the Valentine's Day festivities. Single, dating, married, happily uncoupled, or somewhere in between. We all deserve love.
So, please consider this email to be... your official Sweetheart Gram.
It's a love note, from me to you, filled with a few treats to brighten your day.
Scientists haven't figured out how to deliver chocolate bars via email, so these other
gifts will have to do...
