The magazine is here!

Earlier this year, I opened the doors to a new writing class called DIG DEEP.

I created DIG DEEP with my friend Susan Hyatt. I've been wanting to create a class like this one for a long time. I'm grateful that Susan nudged me and poked me and said, "Let's really do this together."

We’ve had about 100 students join the class since opening daypeople with all kinds of goals. Some of our students want to get book deals. Some want to start blogging again. Some want to spend ten minutes a day journaling with a cup of tea, reconnecting with the art of writing in a quiet, simple way.

Susan and I decided to create a magazine to shine a spotlight on our students’ work. It’s called DIG DEEP: The Magazine. It’s free. It's beautiful. You can download it, share it, enjoy it to the fullest!

Download the desktop version here.
Download the mobile version here.

Inside this magazine, you’ll find essays, poems, and articles all written by DIG DEEP students. You’ll read stories about beloved dogs, about international trips, about the challenges of being a single mom, about trusting your intuition, about birth and death, about grief and reinvention, about the messy, beautiful ride of life.

. . .

And what about you?

If you’ve got a project inside you that wants to come outa podcast, a poem, a song, a renovated garage, a batch of croissants, a fundraiser for a cause you love, a 'zine or class of your ownI hope you’ll carve out some time and really do it.

No waiting. No hiding. Just go for it. Put it out there. Make it big. Make it small. Make it public. Make it private. Make it whatever feels right. This is your one and only life, after all. If not now, then when?

. . .

Oh but wait, there's more!

It's been a busy week. A great deal of coffee has been consumed! On top of DIG DEEP: The Magazine, here are a few other things you can check out, or not...

— Whether you're an intern or a CEO, our careers are just a continual series of awkward first steps.

— I wish the Internet was less snarky and more kind. So I wrote an Internet Pledge.

— I was honored to be a guest on a podcast called The First Four Years. The host's name is David. He and I talked about career transitions, making a living as an artist, and strategies for dealing with discouraging experiences. You can listen here.

— I had so much fun chatting with my friend Nicole, host of Real Talk Radio. On this episode, we discuss everything from how to deal with unexpectedly low ticket sales (not fun, but not fatal)... why "rejection" can be a blessing in disguise ... and also, my detailed review of the Magic Mike Live show in Las Vegas.

— I am feeling extra-super-grateful for my friends and community this week. I want to say "thank you" to Emma for the beautiful card (it made me cry), to Sherry for the relentless positivity, to Lora for the aromatherapy oil (I love it!), to Robert just for existing, to Todd for replying to my emails even though you're incredibly busy and certainly didn't have to, and most of all, to Brandon (my sweetheart) for loving me even though I am not perfect.

— My new book gets released in 35 days! Count-down! I am very nervous + excited (nervcited).

— Also! Brandon and I are GETTING A PUPPY! Aaaaaaahh! The pup was born a few days ago. We get to bring our new fur-baby home in late December. I am obscenely excited. Photos will be shared, fear not!

I hope you're safe and healthy and feeling OK this week.

Please take good care of yourself. I'm sending a hug in your direction.

Love,

-Alex

PS. This song moves me deeply. This one is dance-y and awesome. And this one is perfect if you need to wake up, get moving, and march towards your goals! "One foot in front of the other..."
