Ohhh hi!
Tomorrow is my birthday!
I'm excited to spend the day doing... all the
things I love. Going to a yoga class. Writing snail-mail to friends. Listening to my favorite music. Calling my mom and dad to say, "Thanks for creating me." Getting a massage. And then I'm going to watch A Christmas Prince and eat a Toadstool cupcake! Basically, a perfect day.
And now I have a few gifts for... YOU!
Here are a few things that I've created for you. Some
are very recent. Some are fairly old-ish. All of them are free! Enjoy to the fullest.
GIFTS FOR YOU!
— If you want to doodle, daydream, and play with crayons... here are some free coloring sheets that I drew.
— If you love handwritten letters... here's a free e-book with fun letter-writing ideas.
— If you
struggle to say "no," especially when a friend or colleague asks you for a favor... here's a free e-book with fill-in-the-blank scripts to help you say no, gracefully.
— If you enjoy my weekly music recommendations... here are some playlists I put together: one, two, three, four, and five.
— If you'd like to curl up with some inspiring true stories about life, love, loss,
divorce, parenting, travel, adventure, and so much more... here's a free magazine filled with articles written by students from my Dig Deep writing class.
— If you find yourself procrastinating instead of working on your blog, website, newsletter, or book... here's a free video class to get you unstuck. It's called Stop Waiting, Start Writing.
— If you struggle to "get to the point" when you're writing... here's a free e-book with my all-time favorite communication technique, which is called Feel, Know,
Do. — If you're looking for some conversation-starters to ask around the dinner table, or at holiday parties... here's a list of 100 questions.
— If you would love to get published in a newspaper, magazine, blog, or website... here's a free guidebook with a list of 25 places that would love to publish your work.
— If you want to line up more clients... here's a free e-book with tips and email-writing ideas. On a similar note, here's an article where I tell the story of how my sweetheart and I opened a brunch restaurant, and how we marketed our tiny, fledgling business and found
customers.
— If you'd like to email someone
that you don't know very well and strike up a friendship, partnership, or collaboration... here are some free email-writing tips. (This is a very old e-book that I wrote a long, long time ago—but still, it might
help!)
— If you'd like to do some journaling and self-reflection... here are 5 questions to ask yourself on New Year's Day (or any day, really). And here's one of my favorite questions to ponder: "Do I really need that?"
— If you need a reminder that your life matters, your work matters, your efforts matter... here it is.
. . .
Merry weekend! Happy everything!
Wherever you are, I'm sending some positivity in your direction.
Love,
-Alex
PPS. My birthday / New Year's wish is to become even braver in 2018, and write even more fearlessly and take big creative risks—no matter what the critics, bullies, nitpickers, negative nellies, and trolls may say. When those 1-star Amazon reviews come along—as they inevitably do—I'm
going to shake it off and keep marching! No stopping! Onward I go! Well, realistically, first I will sob and feel hysterical for about 25 seconds but THEN I will get over it and THEN onward I go! Haha!
What about you? What is your New Year's wish? You can hit "reply" and share, if you'd
like!
