Aloha, friends!
I just got back from the Big Island of Hawaii. I was in Hilo—one of my favorite places on earth—leading a couple of writing retreats.
Now I'm home, getting caught up on emails, invoices, laundry, and all the routine bits and bobs of life. But I'm still feeling that post-Hawaii glow. Full of gratitude. Full of
memories.
Both retreats went so beautifully. Such kind people, all working on such interesting projects—tiny books, big books, blog posts, essays, marketing campaigns, newsletters, podcasts, and more.
Everyone got plenty of work done, but of course, the real magic always happens when we step away
from our laptops—sunbathing at the beach, hiking to the waterfall, yoga on the lanai, talking and laughing for hours around the dinner table. Those are the sweetest moments of all. My friend Danielle came along to the first retreat and took some photos of the
experience...
A few things I realized & remembered during these last two retreats... - Amazing things happen when we stop rushing, clicking, texting, fretting, and just...
slow... down.
- Tiny projects are awesome. A mini book. A quick email sequence. A collection of love letters. Sometimes, tiny projects are the most satisfying ones of all. (Plus, they're easier to complete. Win-win.)
- Our bodies love to move—and there's a
direct connection between movement and creativity. Stretching, walking, yoga... movement makes us 10x more productive for the rest of the day.
- You can NEVER have too many dark chocolate bars in the house. - Decorating a stick of butter with tiny edible flowers is... a really good idea.
- Soaking in an outdoor tub filled with hot mineral water is... also a really good idea.
- Visiting Hawaii once... just isn't enough. Which is why I'm heading
back, very soon!
