I’m leading a donation-based / fundraiser writing class on June 10, 2020.
Topic of this class: How to Inspire People to Listen, Care, Take Action, and Change the World.
This class is a fundraiser for Black Lives Matter, the Minnesota Freedom Fund, and other organizations dedicated to ending violence and racism, and to those promoting equality, justice, and safety for minority communities. 100% goes to these organizations.
This class is open to all ages, all genders, all faiths, all professions, all humans, and it's not just for "writers." It's for anyone who wants to learn how to communicate more powerfully—and how to use words to move people from apathy into action.
Class includes: live-streaming video (60 mins) + downloadable workbook. Watch live or watch the recording later.
Whether you're a parent, teacher, student, business owner, artist, non-profit director, whoever you are, whatever you do, my intention is for you to leave this class with new writing/communication skills that you can use immediately...feeling shaken, but also hopeful and determined to write more, speak up more, risk more, and do more.
Donate (any amount, honor system) to attend. Instructions are here.
. . .
At this class on June 10, you’ll learn:
- How to write pieces (emails, essays, speeches, social media posts) that get people’s attention, and inspire people to listen, care, and take action on issues that matter.
- How to use your personal story to move people from apathy into action.
- How to have difficult conversations; conversations that shift people’s minds and hearts.
- We’ll close class with a period of silence, together, honoring those who have been lost too soon.
See more info about what we’ll cover in this class, and how to donate and register.
I'll see you on June 10.
-Alex
PS. Tell your friends about this class. Share the link. More attendees = more donations = more funds raised.
PPS. If you are wondering, “What can I do to fight racism and create a better world?” please read this powerful piece written by Rachel Rodgers, which includes a list of specific things you can do right now.
PPPS. If you are offended that I mentioned Black Lives Matter in this newsletter, then you are welcome to unsubscribe right now. This is a free newsletter, it’s my platform, and I only want people in this community who are determined to build a better world not only through words but actions, too. If that’s you, thank you and please stay. If that’s not you, please remove
yourself.
PPPPS. Recently, a friend said, “True activism doesn’t feel ‘convenient’ or ‘comfortable’. Activism means taking a risk. It means doing things that feel inconvenient. If you’re trying to change the world, but you feel ‘comfortable’ doing it, then you are not doing enough.” These words shook me and I haven’t stopped
thinking about what she said. I will do even more. More than is comfortable. I hope you will, too.
PPPPPS. Big thanks to Lindsey Smith (from the Tiny Book Course) and Woz Flint (my incredible assistant) who worked speedily to help build the sign-up page for this class. Thank you.
PPPPPPS. Music can be a form of medicine during painful times. Here is a new playlist I made called Spirit Balm, featuring the Soweto Gospel Choir, Tracy Chapman, Yo-Yo Ma, Tash Sultana, and many others. I hope it brings the tiniest bit of calm to your heart.
