Hey.
This is an email that I'm writing spontaneously. It might have typos and probably won't be perfect.
Tomorrow, I am going to the ocean to do Tashlich.
Tashlich is a ritual that's performed during Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year celebration, which begins tonight.
When you do Tashlich, you take time for introspection. You reflect on the last year. Then you toss little bits of bread, rice, tiny pebbles, or something else into a body of moving water, like a river or ocean.
A symbolic gesture.
Tossing away things that haunt you, things that feel heavy, things you don't want to carry any longer, things you want to release from your life.
Tossing away worries, anxieties, insecurities, a limiting belief, an old habit, or something else you wish to release or cast away. (For instance, a particular President that you would like to see "released" from his current position. Soon.)
You toss everything into the water, letting it be washed away and carried off.
Out with the old. Calling in the new.
If there is something you would like to release from your life:
- You can email tonight or tomorrow before sundown.
- You can tell me what you'd like to release, if you want.
- Or you can email and share no details, and just say, "Toss a stone for me."
- If you don't want to send an email, send me a telepathic message instead.
- This invitation is open to all faiths, all genders, all humans. Nobody left out.
And then I will go to the water and toss a stone for you.
Because I think we could all use a little salt water, cleansing, stillness, reflection, and hope.
-Alex
PS. RBG, you will be missed. More than words can say. We will honor your legacy by continuing the work that you started.
