I started a new project at the beginning of 2021. It’s called Great News.
And that’s exactly what it is.
Once a month, I send you a collection of news that is purely good and uplifting—news that inspires a feeling of hope for the future. (Because we all need an influx of hope these days.)
It’s important to be aware of what’s happening in the world—the hurt, the pain, the broken systems, the senseless violence, the problems that urgently need to be solved. We need to stay informed. We need to do our part to fix the things that aren't working. And there are so many things that aren't working.
At the same time, sometimes you just need a dose of joy. Light peeking through the clouds. Like medicine. To help you get out of bed, and get through the weeks ahead.
I hope Great News can be that medicine for you.
Here is the third installment of great things, in no particular order...
(Heads up: this edition of Great News does touch upon some serious themes, including depression and mental health challenges, and may not be suitable for all readers. However, every single item on this list has a happy ending and is imbued with hope.)
Great News. March Edition.
- This teenager started a clothing donation charity and has collected thousands of warm coats, hats, and socks for people in need. He has collected over 3,000 coats so far. A major corporation was impressed and inspired, and pledged to contribute an additional 3,000 more. From small, simple, heartfelt ideas...big things can
grow.
- Pet adoption has soared during the pandemic. Millions of pets have found their forever homes. And sales of pet toys went up 200%. Happy furry friends. Happy hoomans.
- Another kind, caring teenager. This teen makes tiny bow ties for shelter dogs to make them look spiffy and adorable in photos and help them get adopted faster. So brilliant. So kind.
- In other pet-related news: Have you ever thought, “I am tired of emailing humans. I wish I could email a dog instead.” Now, you can! Send an email to woof@youcangetitdone.com, and you will get a reply from my dog Zuki, Lindsey’s dog Winnie, or Woz’s dog Willa. Try it. See what happens.
- On Spotify, you can find a music playlist inspired by every sign in the Zodiac. How cool. To my little sister Olivia, if you're reading this, here's Gemini for you.
- Jordan, another wonderful human in our newsletter community, wrote in to share some powerful news. Jordan previously struggled with severe depression and, at one very low point, considered ending his own life. But he didn't. Thanks to therapy and a great deal of self-work, he is now thriving and doing great. Many years later, he decided to open up and share his personal story. He wrote an article called "4 Reasons Not To Kill Yourself" and posted it online hoping that, perhaps, even just one person would see it. To Jordan's surprise, this article has now been read by over 500,000 people. He receives emails every single week from people saying, "thank you for writing that article," "your words made such a difference for me." How incredible that one brief piece of writing—a letter, a
blog post, a list—can touch so many lives. Thank you for sharing, Jordan.
- Great news if you love marketing and you're looking for a terrific job with a cool, progressive, and highly creative company: my friend Susan Hyatt is hiring a Marketing & Sales Manager. She's the founder of the University for Life Coach Training, and a Master certified coach who's been changing lives for well over a decade. Here's the job description. Want to apply?
- Great news if you love clouds, wind, trees, rocks, soil, and would love to work outdoors instead of being on Zoom all day long: 370 park ranger jobs. Hiring now. Maybe one is meant for you.
Such Great News.
-Alex
PS. Do you have a piece of Great News that you would love to share? Any news, big or small? We'd love to hear. *Reply* to email me and my team.
PPS. It has been an intense month and a grueling year. Please take good care of yourself. Be kind to your body, mind, and heart. Be kind to others and extend grace and patience to your coworkers, employees, and to small business owners, customer service agents, and others. Everyone is carrying a lot. Everyone is doing their best.
